AUTUMN BIRDING WEEKEND
16th & 17th April 2011


Autumn is a great time for birding in North East Victoria. Bronzewing Birding Services is offering an Autumn Birding Weekend on the 16th and 17th April 2011. The tour will start from Chiltern and visit sites around the Chiltern - Mt Pilot National Park, Rutherglen, Beechworth, along the Murray River and just over the border into southern New South Wales. Expect over 130+ species. The Box-Ironbark forests around Chiltern are often alive with birds at this time and are augmented by migrants from the higher ranges to the south. Look at the locations, bird list and birds of North East Victoria links above, to see what places and species you may see and visit.

Starting places:
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Chiltern. You can also be picked earlier up at Rutherlgen if your accommodation is there.


Starting and finishing times:
6:30-7:00am on Saturday morning till 1pm, a break, then picked up again around 2-2:30pm. Birding till dark. Spotlighting tour may be available if there is enough interest. Picked up again Sunday morning at 6:30-7:00am, then finish at approximately 1pm.


Suggested accommodation:
In Chiltern cabins at Lake Anderson Caravan Park are a good option if you wish to self cater. The Colonial Motor Inn is also another option. Rutherglen also has a caravan park with cabins and a number of motels.


Cost for the weekend:
$190 per person.


Deposit:
$30 per person before the weekend.


What you will need to bring: food, binoculars, scope (if you have one), insect repellent, sunscreen, hat and water bottle.

Group size: minimum of 3 people, maximum of 8.

We offer a variety of tours, through a wide range habitats that can be accessed easily from a number of towns in the area, or few hours drive from Melbourne. The birdwatching is engaging and constantly varies as seasons climatic conditions and seasons change.

Your guide, Michael Ramsey, has spent most of his life in the area and is well equipped to offer guided tours with the local birding knowledge he has accumulated over the years.

Catering from beginners to more dedicated birders who may want to find some rarer species, Bronzewing Birding Services provides a relaxed and friendly experience while still trying to provide the best birding that is possible at the time.
